District Profile Reitbrook

Reitbrook has a completely rural character. Houses are scattered along the Vorderdeich dike, with some few excemptions, and most residents live of growing and selling flowers and / or vegetables and grain. There are also some cattle farmers. The famous mill is a beautiful sight and so is the old farmhouse Mundt-Hof now turned into an apartment house. If you live here a view over meadows and greenhouses is guaranteed. And on the way up to Tatenberg, following the Vorderdeich several beautiful houses can be spotted. The area is also very close to the water park Dove Elbe and a good location for families, especially if you are into sailing, driving motor boats or canoeing. In the West is a nature reserve with beautiful cycle paths. A tennis club completes the ofer of leasure activities.

There are mentionable families in Reitbrook. The Herrling family, former owner of a chain of bakeries, is known for their environmental engagement. Some years back they built a fermentation plant and currently they try to breed Black Tiger shrimps! The Langenoh family is the only cattle farmer selling real "fresh milk" (the fresh milk you buy in our supermarket is not really fresh in fact, as it is pasteurized), directly from Laura, Kindy or Hanka – the cows all have names. If you chose to live in the South-East of Hamburg you can have it delivered to your doorstep. Family Martens has a special garden center, focusing on orchids and selling them at very reasonable prices!

The connection to the city center is good, within minutes the motorway is reached from where it takes 20 minutes to the city center. There are no shops other than those selling garden flowers, hence a car is needed. You also need to take your children by car to the schools and kindergardens in the neighbor districts. 2 buslines with several stops along the Western part of Vorderdeich connect to the S-Bahn station Nettelnburg. It takes around 30-40 minutes to Hamburg city center.

Just like Tatenberg the population is small (only around 500 residents) living in single-family houses. It is difficult to find housing here as residents seldom move. But who knows, maybe you are lucky!
