Hammerbrook nowadays is basically industrial and business area of the so-called City - Süd. There is next to no residential area and the few corners lack attractiveness. There is a mentionable newbuild in a converted chocolate manufactury, which offer lofty and highclass apartments situated directly above one of the many channels. However, when moving into this neighborhood you need to like the somewaht sterile athmosphere of the office buildings lined up, the big connection roads with huge traffic and the general absence of tiny little shops and cafés. One recognizable set-up is the art house ("Künstlerhaus") at Wendenstrasse giving a business home to fotographers, painters, journalists or writers, musicians and other creative professionals.

The whole area has been completely destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt in the 60s with the typical office and storage buildings.
