The first thing to do is to apply. It takes around 2 weeks to get a response by the LBV. It will contain a case number with which you can start your driving lessons at any driving school and it is a prerequisite for taking the test.

The LBV offers an online appointment system, and they do not have a lot of free appointments. Usually, there is a waiting period of 3 weeks.

Where to do an emergency aid course
- The German Red Cross (DRK) offers English courses on request. Write an email to ausbildung@drk-wandsbek.de or call them under 040 - 657 00 41 Mo.-Thu. 8.00 - 16.00, Fr. 8.00 - 15.30. Cost: 35 EUR. It will take 8 hours (9:00-17:00) and is held on Saturdays and Sundays.
- The Johanniterorden also offers courses in English (as well as in Russian and Spanish) on request. You need to contact their service center under 040 65054-0 or use their online contact form. The courses run over 9hours and can also bee booked on one day (weekends). Cost: 50 EUR.
- The Sanitätsschule Nord offers courses in English, Turkish and Russian for 24,90 EUR during the week starting 15:00 to 22:00. The courses can be attended without registration, however, it always makes sense to confirm that the translator will be present.
- The Arbeiter Samariter Bund also offers the courses in English. Cost is 40 EUR and duration is 8 hours on one day. Registration is necessary.
- The driving schools iDrive (English and Turkish) and Wethjen (English, French, Turkish, Polish and Russian) offer the full training in foreign languages, including first aid courses. You need to contact them via phone or email.
The eyesight test can usually be conducted unannounced in the same building for a small fee.

Driving Schools offering schooling in English
Do you need driving lessons? If you believe you don't, it is still worthwhile to take at least one lesson to get insight into the test requirements. There are various driving schools in Hamburg and some of them also offer the training in English. The underneath schools are just examples.
